The Challenge
Wellacre Academy, a forward-thinking secondary school in Greater Manchester, was committed to reducing its environmental impact while managing rising energy costs. Like many schools, it faced the challenge of balancing sustainability ambitions with tight budgets and the need to maintain uninterrupted learning. The leadership team wanted a solution that would deliver long-term carbon savings and educational value, without requiring upfront capital or adding financial strain.
The Solution
Eden Sustainable delivered a fully funded solar energy system through our Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) model, allowing Wellacre to access clean, low-cost electricity with zero upfront investment. Our team designed and installed a rooftop solar array tailored to the school’s energy profile, ensuring optimal generation during school hours. The installation was carefully planned to avoid disruption to students and staff, with full DBS compliance and rigorous health and safety protocols. Eden also supported the school in integrating the solar system into its sustainability curriculum, providing access to live generation data for student learning.
The Outcome
The solar installation now supplies Wellacre Academy with a significant portion of its electricity at a fixed, lower rate, reducing both carbon emissions and energy bills. The project has enhanced the school’s sustainability credentials and provided a real-world teaching resource that engages students in climate action. This case study demonstrates Eden’s ability to deliver tailored, turnkey solar solutions for schools, proving that with the right partner, sustainability can be both financially and educationally empowering.
