The Challenge
Star Academies, a leading multi-academy trust, is committed to delivering excellence in education while embedding sustainability across its operations. With rising energy costs and increasing pressure to reduce carbon emissions, the trust faced the challenge of making its schools more energy-efficient without compromising learning environments or diverting funds from core educational priorities. The trust needed a solution that was financially sound, scalable, and aligned with its values of stewardship and innovation.
The Solution
Eden Sustainable partnered with Star Academies to deliver a capex-funded solar programme across four of their schools. Our team designed and installed high-performance solar arrays tailored to each site’s energy profile, ensuring optimal generation and long-term reliability. By funding the project through capital expenditure, Star retained full ownership of the systems and their benefits. Eden managed the entire process, from feasibility and planning to installation and grid connection, with minimal disruption to school operations, showcasing our deep understanding of the education sector’s unique requirements.
The Outcome
The installations are now generating clean electricity and delivering substantial financial savings, averaging £293,326 per year across the four schools. These savings can be reinvested into educational resources, facilities, and student support. The project has also significantly reduced the trust’s carbon footprint, reinforcing its commitment to environmental leadership. This case study demonstrates Eden’s ability to deliver high-impact solar solutions for schools, combining technical excellence with sector-specific insight to help educational institutions thrive sustainably.
