The Challenge
Hunters Personal is part of Hunters, the national estate agency founded in 1992 on principles of customer service and getting the best results for its customers. Under the Hunters Personal brand, agents work their own territory on their own terms, without a high street branch. That makes the York office on Eboracum Way an important base for the business.
Like any office, it runs on electricity through the working day: lighting, heating, IT and the systems behind the people who use it. Eden’s brief was to generate as much of that power on site as possible and cut the building’s carbon footprint without disrupting the people working inside.
The Solution
Eden Sustainable designed and installed an 81 kWp rooftop solar PV system on the York office, funded as a capital investment so the system is owned outright. The array is made up of 175 JA Solar 460W panels on angled mounts across the flat roof, feeding two Solis 40kW inverters.
Permanent roof access was part of the design from the start, so the system can be inspected and maintained safely without scaffolding every time someone needs to get up there. Eden managed the design, the grid connection application with Northern Powergrid and all compliance sign-off. The system has been generating since June 2023.
The Outcome
The system avoids 15 tonnes of CO₂ every year and saves around £5,000 a year on electricity. For an office building, the carbon figure is the headline: a measurable cut that Hunters Personal can report on.
Because the system is owned outright, the saving stays with the business for the life of the panels, and every unit generated on the roof is protected from future rises in grid prices.
